“The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say: “You are just in these judgments, O Holy One,
you who are and who were; for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets,
and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.”And I heard the altar respond: ‘Yes, Lord God Almighty, true and just are your judgments.’” (Revelation 16:4-7)
As I was reading this text I was stuck with the reality, that I personally deserve this cup of wrath, furthermore all the cups of wrath that are still to come upon a God rejecting world. This is the verse God gave me in light of a recent communion service and it moved me to humility. The truth is that all sin, all fall short, all earn and deserve the wrath of God. Yet God, in His infinite grace took my sin and placed it upon His Son, so that today, I can hold a small cup of grape juice, drinking it in honor of Him. For Jesus took the cup of God's wrath that was due for my sin and He drank it all, to the very last drop and said, "It is finished!" Thank you Lord for drinking the wrath I so rightly deserve.

It is finished
And the sky grew black as the night
It is finished
And the people scattered in fright
The work had been done
Redemption had been won
The war was over without a fight
It is finished
