"Then Moses and Aaron took these men who had been mentioned by name, and assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month..." (Numbers 1:17-18)As we all venture together into the book of Numbers this week in our 1 Year Bible, we hit a portion of text full of tons of numbers and names of people we cannot even pronounce! Why did God inspire Moses to write this stuff??? Well I am sure we could go into deep, apologetic-type reasons which explains family-lines and genealogies and their connection to the Messiah etc... But I am not all that smart, so don't worry, I will not write a 10 page explanation, instead, I will sum it up in 1 word... LOVE.
God loves people. And although these names and people seem so insignificant to us today reading about them, they are not unimportant to God... and neither are you! In Christ, we know according to scripture that our names are written in The Book of Life. God knew all these people by name, and He has forever preserved them in His Eternal Word! And our names will be written down by God too, in The Book of Life! So as Paul encouraged the church at Philippi, I want to encourage you. "... And the rest of my workers, whose names are in the Book of Life. Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say rejoice!" (Philippians 4:3-4)...
P.S. What do you think of the exited guys I picked? They look like they just found out their names are written in the Book of Life!
